    Non-Handball Incident

In my opinion (and remember as refs we all have a different perspective on certain incidents) he is making himself bigger in this particular clip. I'm not saying I expect players to jump up like seals but that arm is away from his body, he could easily have jumped by putting his right arm on...

    Video Analysis - Episode 3

I think he handled the whole situation pretty well. It's pretty obvious the keeper has tried to put him off (Like Joe Hart does on penalty kicks that he faces) he's scored and I assume he said F off along with the gesture he made towards the keeper. It didn't really delay the penalty shootout...

    Penalty kick

That's understandable mate, I myself think it's harsh, but if I have to I will (begrudgingly) book them. I used to be a keeper myself so I think that's why I find it harsh :D

    text book circumvention.

I was a keeper before I became a ref, I had a centre half who would routinely do stuff like this when passing back to me. I told him it was against the LOTG. Not once did a referee blow up!!!

    Penalty or Not?

Mike Dean would have given it on his one man crusade :D And for the record, I would have given it as well, but not produce a card.

If that was on my pitch I am giving a penalty.

    Penalty Shootout Help

Thanks for sharing @RegalRef I still wouldn't blame you for that situation though. Will keep this in mind when I do eventually have a penalty shootout.

    Penalty Shootout Help

It was the top 2 teams in the division playing each other, both with excellent records (8 1 0 & 8 0 1) so I half expected it to go all the way. The game didn't disappoint, it contained some excellent goals - one of them from nearly the half way line! It was 3-3 and I looked at my watch and...

    Penalty Shootout Help

Thanks @206eddy , well explained. Just one query, do you get their number after they have taken their kick? Doesn't seem right to ask them to turn round and show you their number before they take the kick?

    Penalty Shootout Help

Hi guys, I have my first cup game tomorrow so I have never done a penalty shootout before. How do you guys find is the best way to write down the takers etc. Do you ask the teams for their initial 5 takers, or do you get the complete order from 1-11. What is your template in your ref book for...

    Some players don't learn....

I had a feeling it might be. Although it's rarely enforced. In my playing career I saw this kind of situation quite a lot and usually the ref would just have a word with the offender....

    Some players don't learn....

This has just made me think, we all know if we get called a cheat then they are binned. However, what if a player says to a CAR (without swearing) "You're a cheat you are" What are we supposed to do in law?

    Some players don't learn....

Agreed, I have already stated it was for dissent in the opening post. I don't consider the word he used to be a very bad swear word if at all, like I said earlier if he had said the 'f' word variant then I would have wanted him binned.

    Some players don't learn....

As I already stated, I left it completely up to the referee. He did give him a stern rollicking before producing the yellow.

I hadn't actually thought about it in this way, food for thought. Thanks for putting it out there.

    Ball going outside the box

Yep, they are spot on. Being a keeper before I took up the whistle I already knew this. I used to take great pleasure in backing up the ref when one of my own defenders questioned his insistence of the ball leaving the area on a free kick.

    Some players don't learn....

Thanks for the input as always gents.. Yes in this situation I agreed with the ref, however if it had been the 'f' word then I would have been asking for him to be binned and not just yellow carded. At the end of the day though I believe we can only advise him on what to do. Although usually...

    Some players don't learn....

Incident yesterday when I was on the line. Close offside decision but he was offside. Flag goes up, ref blows. The offender walking back was not happy and says: Player: Are you sure Lino? Me: Yes, close but you were just off. Player: P*ss off. (Said towards me in neither an aggressive...
