    Worthing Vs Aveley

Feel for the ref and AR, especially as it's early in the season. The ref would be vilified if he/she said 'hold on, I have the LOTG booklet on the sidelines, let me just clarify'. But other professions do it. I regularly consult a textbook when I am teaching, but referees are expected to have...

    Worthing Vs Aveley

Going to print this out and stick in my ref wallet for the weekend, just in case, along with my sin bin card. Better to be safe than sorry

    Keeper gets the ball first?

Yes the red card was for one of the players calling me a ‘useless, cheating c word’

    Keeper gets the ball first?

Great advice and thanks again. I think next time making sure I keep an eye on where the ball has gone, i.e. has the keeper made a good clearance before the contact, which is probably leaning more towards a good clearance and not a penalty. The other thing I wish I could have changed was I...

    Keeper gets the ball first?

So would you still give a penalty if say the keeper got a very slight touch of the ball, but wiped out the player in doing so? Both attackers were Injured in the process. My current threshold is the same as an outfield player, getting the ball is irrelevant if you take out the player doing so...

    Keeper gets the ball first?

No sorry, the red card was for abusive language from one of his teammates.

    Keeper gets the ball first?

Great thank you. Something to take on board next week.

    Keeper gets the ball first?

Had two games this weekend, and two nearly identical incidents. Attackers through on goal, keepers comes out, may or may not have got the ball first, (marginal at best, but don’t see the ball changing direction), but completely wipes out the players. I give penalties for both, as I think both of...

FA Cup - MNC vs MNU

Yes, the big 6 corruption Twitter brigade would lose their minds! They would just default to the 'nobody knows the rules of handball anymore' argument.

FA Cup - MNC vs MNU

Jonathan Wilson is one of the best. Shame the BBC, BT and ITV don't use football journalists like him for their studio analysis, as most of the ex-pros talk absolute drivel, especially when it comes to the LOTG.

FA Cup - MNC vs MNU

    A well-argued article here. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jun/04/jack-grealish-ruling-in-fa-cup-final-further-proves-absurdity-of-handball

    Handball Wording in law

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jun/04/jack-grealish-ruling-in-fa-cup-final-further-proves-absurdity-of-handball Brilliant article here from one of the best football writers around. Jonathan Wilson. Have to agree with his analysis, as unlike some of the idiotic co-commentators on TV...

    Europa League final

Read comments on Twitter that Taylor lost control. The only people who lost control were the managers, (Mourinho especially), coaches and players. Refs cannot control behaviour, people control their own behaviour. The footage of Mourinho shouting abuse as the officials boarded the bus is an...

Would have kicked off with the parents!

    Europa League final

Sort of game if it is over the park you would threaten to call it off! UEFA really need to have a look at this game, players and coaches completely out of control. The Premier League has been bad this season but this isn't football

    Championship Playoff Final

Don't believe every contact is a foul, so even if there was contact, and looks like there may have been, there wasn't enough for a penalty and think the yellow card was deserved for the context of trying to win a penalty in such a crucial part of the game.

    Liv Villa - Mings VAR

Yes the rugby solution might not work in football, but sone interesting ideas. I suppose the only solution at the moment is ensuring time is added, but fans are getting increasingly frustrated by this ‘tactic’, and that’s what it is

    Liv Villa - Mings VAR

Yes, was enough time for Liverpool to find a winner, but it is clearly a tactic used to stop momentum. Can’t blame the ref, as you cannot ignore a player holding his head, but players are deliberately doing it.

    Liv Villa - Mings VAR

The other big issue issue in the game, as I was watching it live on TV was Villa’s constant time wasting. Brentford are also the masters of this, i.e. a player goes down injured when a team is on the attack, or has won a corner. Completely takes the sting out of the game. Fair play to the ref...
