The avuncular one
Has a major brain fart yesterday.

Nearing the end of the match, result already certain, freekick just outside area. Ceremonial freekick. A defender decides to try and charge down the freekick, does not touch the ball, but it is blatant and clear what he had done and it had certainly put the taker off (he is very close to the ball when it is kicked).

Whistle, caution for failure to respect the required distance at a restart. Defending teams defence "but he is not part of the wall ref!" My response "this is not rugby, you are not allowed to charge down freekicks" (little homage to Nigel Owens rugby ref statement - do a YouTube search very funny). All good so far. Then the brain fart - restart with a goal kick not the retake of the freekick.

Kicking myself for that one. Ruined the entire game for me. Hate making law based mistakes, this is the first one this season. :(

Don't beat yourself up about it mate, it happens, just try and think of all the mistakes the players made!

None of the attacking team challenged it?
Not really. The game was more or less over, they just wanted to get to the sausage and chips waiting in the club by that point.

I apologised to them after the game and the captain said "we were losing 6-1 when that happened, it's not like it would have made a lot of difference".

I once blew the whistle for offside but the ball then went through to the keeper so for some reason I shouted "play on advantage, keepers got the ball" just as I realised what I did the keeper then booted it, no one questioned it so I went with it!
