A question about penalty shootout

do both teams suppose to use the exact same ball for penalty shootouts (if the ball is not damaged and can be retrieved).
If this rule is valid, I wonder if there is a source I can find it in written.

No, not in the law book. Any balls in use should be the same and competition rules normally specify how many identical balls should be provided.

But at grassroots, hobby cups, it might be smart to be careful in case you end up with a different type of ball in the middle of a shoot out. In reality the referee should have checked any match balls before the game.
 
I would only be allowing a different ball to be used at grass roots if the first ball was somehow lost. Would have to be one hell of a bad penalty to lose the ball, but suppose it could happen.
