Awww he is only a kid and its enthusiasm.......

The Referee Store
One of the most moronic bits of commentary/summarising I have heard.

Worth bearing in mind, these are "experts" who get a wage (from license fee) to spout this dribble....

or to put another way, the pundit will not have been paid less than the match referee last night...

But the pundits aren't paid to be knowledgeable about the laws, they are paid to be entertaining an make fans happy. There doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence that the average TV viewer really wants a technical explanation. (We could digress into news, etc, as parallels, but perhaps best not to.)

You could also say they are paid to describe what they see
Imagine being blind, or this was a radio clip?
You would think the red is harsh...

Is there a stamp a couple of seconds in too or have I gone mad? The blue player who clears the ball first

Sure. You could say anything. But the point of TV or radio broadcasts is to make money. They make money by getting viewers. They get viewers by delivering what viewers want to see and hear so that they come back. For better or worse, more viewers seem attracted to hyperbole, drama, and outraageousness than to clinical analysis. As long as that is the case, that is what the media is going to deliver whether we like it or not.
