2 incidents on the front page of 2 papers yesterday - one town paper one regional, both different stories regarding referees being abused.
1- regional paper. A 16 year old ref was grabbed by the throat and spat at twice as he went back to changing rooms. This was because he did not give a free kick in an U9 game. The boys parent hailed abuse at him, the ref asked them to stop. He then stopped the game for 10 minutes whilst the parents were told to leave by the own teams manager. 2 - local paper. A 20 year old woman referee was spat at when she sent a player off. The player was an attacker, the ref did not give a free kick that the attacker wanted, he ended up punching the opposition GK, he was shown the red card then spat in the face of the ref. The game was abandoned.
