I may be in a minority of one who read too much from the Law 8 change, but this may be of some use to others in case of any doubt.
IFAB has confirmed via email that when play stops from the ball changing possession after striking a match official, the ball is dropped for the team that would have gained possession had the ball not hit the match official.
(Or dropped for the team that last touched it, if not possible to determine who would have gained possession)
