So I’m center for a U14 game this morning and it’s literally whales v minnow. The minnows are playing up at least 1 age level maybe 2 and in skill level as well.
So here in the northeast US indoor games are the norm after November to April. Also the games are not sanctioned by US soccer and count for nothing.
a minnow is holding, grabbing etc on a whale, I don’t blow the whistle as it literally does nothing to stop this big kid. At the next stoppage, I tell the kid he can’t do that and he replies, ‘what am I supposed to do ref, look at the size difference’. I explain I understand but…’what do you think I should do‘ he asks. I tell him all he can do is foul him but next time it’s a foul or penalty depending on where it happens.
Normally I wouldn’t do this but indoor is a little more easy going and they don’t even keep score. It’s just practice.
