Scenario……..a defending player plays a ball back to their goalie in such a way that the goalie has to make a save to prevent a goal. The ball then goes out of play……whats the correct response please?

Laws are very clear that the unique GK offenses cannot result in a caution or send off.

However also bear in mind that it's not an offence for a keeper to use their hands with the ball simply because it was "played back" to them.

First of all, for an offence to be even possible, the ball has to be kicked. If it's played with the head, chest, knee etc, there's no offence if the keeper uses their hands.

Secondly, not only must the ball be kicked, but it has to be intentionally directed to the goalie. If the referee has doubts about where the kicker intended it to go, they shouldn't give the offence.

So for instance, if the ball is wide enough of the goalkeeper that they have to dive to get to it, that might raise doubts about what was intended (though not necessarily).

Also, I would avoid using the word "back" in this context - the ball does not have to travel backwards for an offence to be possible.
