Last Saturday I gave an indirect FK for dangerous play, no complaints.
It was about 30 yards out. I raised my arm to indicate that the FK was indirect.
Player took the kick, the ball sailed into the top corner without the keeper or anyone else touching it.
I disallowed the goal and gave a goal kick. A few mumbles, but no real complaints. except from the kicker who reckoned that I should have informed him verbally.
Q : Is this in the LOTG to inform the taker verbally?? If not, is it recommended practice to make sure the kicker is aware??

Nope, the signal is fine, so long as you kept your arm raised. Not your fault if the kicker isn’t fully clued up with signals.

In terms of match control, you might decide you want to mention it to the kicker (particularly at younger ages where they may be unaware which offences are direct or indirect) but the signal suffices.

I always do and inform the keeper as well (as well as the signal) people more experienced than me will tell you if its in the laws that you have to.

I would further add, that 'Careless DP' without contact = IDFK
If there is contact, the restart would be direct
Although contact is not the only factor to consider, I would associate it with a caution if the play was reckless or SFP if worse again
