Trying to understand the flip side. There is no issue with the jump and coming down after that. The issue is what LK's leg did after making the initial contact. It seems as though rather that minimising contact, or avoiding hurting the opponent, the movement of the leg maximised hurt. You don't expect to see this movement on the leg if someone is 'careful'. The point is, if a player is coming down from a jump, you'd expect the leg to be in a position to support his own body weight. There always the possibility that the studs got caught on the socks but unlikely.
I think a VAR intervention was not warranted.

That's how I see it aswell, I don't think he's as innocent as people make it out to be and there does seem to be a secondary movement as he came down.
Definitely agree with all of that. I have been saying to many people over a long period of time that there are some world class Referees in Europe & around the World, but few & far between & spectators should be mindful of what they wish for when they complain about PL Referees. Why on earth it had to be upgraded from a 2nd yellow to a straight red is just mind boggling. All a bit of a farce really, and people should look at this when they complain about the standard of refereeing in the Premier League. I know that intent isn't taken into account when judging fouls and sanctions, but what could he possibly have done differently here? He's jumped for a header perfectly fairly and just landed on the opponent's leg, if that is a red card then we are saying that players are no longer allowed to jump for headers.
To them compound what was a very harsh second yellow by sending the referee for a VAR review to upgrade it to a straight red just defies belief.

How has Kelly been reckless for a yellow card?I'm gonna stand out here and say I'm reasonably comfortable with a second caution. I don't think there was any need to pull it back for a red card as you highlight it and will really split opinion, where as people could live with seeing it cautioned on field as it's clearly a very painful one for the recipient.
Because he hasn't ensured he landed safely. Appreciate once he's in the air you could say he's struggling to do anything else, but there's also a reason I've never seen this before and thats that 99% of the time people don't come down how he did. I'm not saying it's a stone wall caution, I'm torn, I said I was comfortable with a 2nd yellow being given on field and I think it should have been left at that. How has Kelly been reckless for a yellow card?
From moment Kelly is pushed to the tenth of a second later he lands what can Kelly do differently??Because he hasn't ensured he landed safely.
