Just before the Everton red card for the handbags to team mate (yellow better IMHO) I was quite stunned that Webb supported the yellow for the Wolves (? Vs Palace) two footed stamp. Easy red surely. Not a footballing action. Out of control. Moderate force but whole bodyweight, contact by studs to top of foot, horrible - completely missed by the (embarrassed) ref who was too close. VAR recommends red, ref goes yellow, Webb supports - farce! Sorry, Varce!

I too would have preferred SFP for this challenge, it reminded me a bit of Lisandro Martinez's 'stamp'. Arias left the ground late and his action was dangerous and uncontrolled. Kavanagh and Webb seemed happy to focus on the outcome above everything else.

My first instinct for the Wolves challenge was red but after consideration, I prefer yellow as the point of contact is the top of the boot where the opponent is well-protected. However, I appreciate that the nature of the challenge is very concerning. Red is probably the easier sell at lower levels.

The Everton red card is the only possible sanction. It’s a deliberate strike with the hand to the head and the force used is not negotiable. If not a red, it must be no sanction. A yellow card is an admission that the force used is not neglible.

Anyone else notice they made up a quote from Law 12 clarifying that attacker handball only applies to the goal scorer? I mean, they’re right, but I think if you’re quoting the Laws, you should only include quotes from the Laws.

I'm kind of OK with the Jhon Arias outcome, he jumps in the air but there was very little force and contact was on the foot. I think it is one of the rare ones where you can support VAR recommending a review but also support the referee saying thanks but no thanks.

On a side note, after reading this thread, the first time I am noticing that LOTG now has three categories of handball. Deliberate handball which is always an offence. Non-deliberate handball which is always an offence but with lesser sanction and accidental handball which is sometimes an offence with no sanctions.
