Obviously noone will have seen this because of the Blackout. What do we think about the Forest Goal? I think it's offside.

The stream I was watching it on, VAR flashed up saying it was offside? And then a minute later, it's given as a goal.

Also think that PGMOL have given the game the least experienced officials. 1 newly promoted SG1 Referee, 1 SG2 Assistant Referee, 1 newer SG1 Assistant Referee and a LG1/LG2 4th Official. Anyone know why that is?

As you say, most people won't have seen it. According to Soccer Saturday the goal was initially disallowed, but then the lines showed he was on so the goal was given.

Unless it has changed recently, the officials work in teams of 6, 2 referees and 4 assistants. At a guess I'd say that they have worked together in the Championship so know and trust each other. John Brooks isn't newly promoted, he was promoted in 2021.

As an aside, not entirely sure publicly saying that you watched an illegal stream is the best of ideas 😂

I am quite sure that it's entirely legal to watch streams of the 3pm kickoffs in the UK because these matches are not broadcast in the UK.

It's only illegal to receive transmissions "with intent to avoid payment of any charge applicable". Therefore, it would be illegal to receive transmissions of the early and late kick offs but the 3pm kick offs are fine to stream.

Don't think so, and without a VPN you can't as the UK ISPs have been legally ordered to block any such streams. Realistically they will never go after individuals and rather target the streamers, but that doesn't make it legal.

Anything that is not explicitly illegal, is legal :D. The fact that a game is not being streamed by a streaming service in a certain country, does not make it illegal for anyone in that country to use a VPN to watch it through a streaming services from other countries.

It is a breach of contract (illegal) for streaming services to stream to countries outside their contract. They can only detect it based on IP address. What makes the unintended possible is VPN. So if there is a law saying you can't use a VPN to watch general or specific streaming services in other countries, only then it becomes illegal for the viewer.

Onside, assuming the technology worked correctly and that is all they can go on. For the penalty I assume they gave it for the leg contact rather than upper body, and therefore deemed it a challenge for the ball.

Also, that isn't a great position or body shape for the AR. Play wasn't moving quickly so he should be side on.

I do have some insight in the streaming thing as I have a friend that works in media law and we have discussed it. They will rarely go after individuals, and rather target the platforms that are illegally streaming it. The bottom line is though that you can only watch it on a stream from a TV company that has paid Premier League Productions media rights to show it (e.g. Bein Sports, Spark, Optus, etc). Unless you have subscribed to one of those channels, and I'm pretty sure you can't if you are based in England, you are watching copyrighted material that you haven't paid for. That's no different to streaming a movie on Kodi.

The first angle they showed was definitely offside.

On that clip has the ball already been played or is it when the ball was played? Very hard to tell

How is it not a red card for the palace penalty?

I was able to watch on a legal replay stream in the US (thanks, Peacock!!)

But in all seriousness, this has to be a red card. It’s the literal embodiment of the “push, pull, or hold” in Law 12. We would all fail an assessment if we didn’t give a red here.

No, it isn't cricket 😂

If the lines show onside or level any offside decision indicated will be overturned.
Offside, as you indicated, is deemed to be an objective decision. Either you are on or you’re off.

All that matters is that a human being sitting in front of a computer screen can identify the correct point of contact, the farthest legal point forward for the attacker, and the point of the second to last defender that is closest to the goal line or the part of the ball that’s closest to the goal line.

But other than that, it’s completely objective. :)

(To be fair, I’m not criticizing your post-only the foolish idea that VAR can determine offside decisions with 100% precision and accuracy.)

there wasn't even a booking for the penalty.
