If a player urinates at the side of the field of play before the game begins or during the halftime interval what action if any would you take

Depends how obvious and visible he is I guess.

Done it myself when miles from the changing rooms but usually find a tree to hide behind.

As per Matty HOWEVER ... when a player ran off and did it without letting me know, after he had scored a goal, I cautioned him for leaving the field of play

Whole debate about it here - including vid of Jens Lehman doing just that during a game - general consensus would seem to be yellow card for one reason or another

o.k., so what can we bring to the feast

if it was a team official, we would have the power to expel the official from the field of play and it's immediate surroundings for failing to conduct themselves in a responsible manner....but this is a player

we can also provide the appropriate authorities with a match report, reporting an incident that has occurred before, during or after a match

you can caution the player for unsporting behaviour, for acting in a manner which shows a lack of respect for the game

if you think his/her action constitutes an offensive, insulting or abusive gesture you can send the player off

you can send them off if you caution them and have already cautioned them once

So, yes, you could send a player off. Whether you would or not would surely depend on the individual circumstances. This is one instance which could certainly be viewed differently depending on whether the act was performed by, say, a 30 year old adult or a seven year old child

Instruction was passed from our FA that peeing at the side of the pitch amounts to offensive behaviour, especially where those parks are public and/or bounded by peoples houses. As such, offenders should be shown the red card. A bit harsh but I can see where they are coming from.
