Ryan, have a look at podrunner. Its good for building up to running any distance and then increasing the distance gradually. I swear by it, now able to do 6 milers on a regular basis (at my age) and the odd 8 miler thrown in. http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html
I'll second that. If your knees are weak, you might find it hard. But if you maintain good form and don't push beyond your limits you should stay safe and see results
I've been doing regular bike rides every other night for past 2 weeks or so, gonna enjoy my holiday next week then start serious on the running when I'm back!
