Hi guys, I've been trying to join my local referees association (Liverpool) but not had any reply at all.

I filled out the form online and emailed it back to them 4 weeks ago and not even had an acknowledgement of it, has anyone else had this problem? Is there another way to join it or speak to them?

Cheers,

John

My experience is that when it is "out of season" people are hard to get hold off, after all running a RA branch takes time which is given free.
I would search the internet for a contact number or get one via your county FA and phone.
They may just not have checked email, most will say turn up on the night of the meeting give details and pay the membership fee and your covered.

That would explain it, I didn't think about it being out of season! I will try and find out when the next meeting is and turn up then. Thanks for your help :)

John, that is exactly what I did. I don't know how, but I managed to get hold of a contact e-mail address. I contacted the chairman who was very pleased to hear from me and invited me along to the next meeting. Everyone (not many as it is not a big branch) was very welcoming and friendly. There was absolutely no pressure to join. The first I heard about joining and payment was an e-mail from the Chairman a few weeks later when subs were due for this season. Even then, there was no pressure. I have only been to the one meeting (due to working) but enjoyed it and will definitely go along to the next.

It sounds really good, I have just found my local RA's website so am going to go to the next meeting. What branch are you with?

John, Liverpool's is a very strong branch of the RA. Your County have sent referees to the Iber Cup in Portugal for at least the last two seasons for an international youth tournament. The RA have been heavily involved. Also one of your local reps, Eddie McGrath is on the national board of the RA, so again strong links. Good luck with your membership and enjoy your season
