Signal for Direction of Throw In

One thing to note on this. If the referee is facing the AR (who is normally left-back position) it would be left hand for attacking throw. Unless you arer referring to the AR signal and I've misunderstood in which case you are right that it is left for defending throws.
Yeah. Just got it mixed up, as evident per the last few words in that paragraph. Corrected it now. The point is still valid though on the hand used should give away if corner or TI

There's a lot you can learn from watching SG referees. Some of it is good, and some of it is bad.

I'd say signalling is one of the bad things, as they don't tend to signal too often, and when they do, they're not the greatest. Oliver always has his arm bent and Taylor points- I've seen a few referees picked up for pointing over the years.

Martin Atkinson was always good at signalling.

My favourite is when I forget which way a side is attacking so I just shout "red touched it last" and I wait until they throw the ball and I see what way they are attacking before I signal.

On a similar vein, after I made a couple of incorrect signals early on in my refereeing journey (pretty much always just after half time) what I started doing was just calling which team had the throw, "red ball," "white ball" etc.

I could always remember which team had touched it last, so just calling the other team's colour was much easier than figuring out which direction to point. And usually, once I called the colour it would help me to realise what the direction was and then I could signal as well (if needed, which it usually wasn't).

On a similar vein, should AR signal for all goal kicks, or if obvious then not required? I say this as in Championship play off, obvious goal kicks were not signalled by AR.

On same note is there a requirement for a referee goal kick signal?
