Valencia vs Barcelona

Mooseybaby

Retired big bad baldy in all black!
Not for the first time, goal line controversy in La Liga, which doesn't use GLT.

Messi's shot fumbled by Valencia's keeper, ball bounces towards Valencia goal, keeper recovers and swats the ball away. Several Barcelona players run towards corner flag and AR convinced it did cross the line, goal not given and play continued. On the counter, Valencia wasted a golden opportunity to rub salt in Barcelona wounds with Zaza dragging his shot wide.

Not seen any replays with cameras directly in line with the goal line, but replays from various angles shown suggested it may well have crossed the line. Tough one for the AR, who was in line was the last defender, so was never in the position to give a credible decision.

Always an impossible task for the assistant in cases like these, never goimg go be in line, do you really want them guessing? Absolutely not

Should have glt, absolute no brainer...

I assumed they had it as the Prem, shocked that they are a tad behind. GLT seems to be the best of the recent additions to the game, simple and effective.... At our levels this can happen still of course, its easy when you've cameras everywhere to form a judgement, far harder out in the middle as we all know!!!

We are talking about ARs at the highest level of the game. The ball bounced about four inches over the line. A difficult call, yes. An impossible one, no. One you expect the AR to get correct at that level.

He wasn’t exactly in line but his angle was good enough to make a call. He had a clear view and his angle was slightly better than the angle of the camera in the snapshot below (without the zoom obviously). I suspect the biggest contributing factor to the error was his concentration on “ball over the line” in that exact moment. Possibly more concerned with getting himself to the goal line rather than if the ball crossed the line.

It's obviously an error, but you can't blame the assistant. Whilst it is clear it is over the line from the image above, the assistant is 20 yards from the goal line and doesn't have anything like the same clear angle on it. Not to mention he can't freeze time as you can with a video ..!
