I thought it was excessively harsh; given that he was already on a yellow some discretion would have gone a long way. It quite possibly lost them the (knockout) game too.

Speaking as an Australian... I do not think that's a penalty. His arm is in a natural position for me.

He recently had a poor game in the Europa League semi-final (Sevilla vs Juventus), including sending off Acuna with a second yellow for delaying the restart, seemingly forgetting that Acuna was already on a yellow.

This post is partly to debrief and partly for input. Had an interesting match today. This is about my 9th (?) game as a centre, so very new still! In fact I had not ever given out a yellow card before today - partly due to being new but also refereeing very young players who have been well...

Play advantage and award the goal. If the handball was a deliberate attempt to stop the goal (which it wasn't in this case), caution for unsporting behaviour ("handles the ball in ... an unsuccessful attempt to prevent a goal") - but still award the goal!

In my league we don’t show cards below U12, but we can (and 100% should) send off players for offences like that.

Thanks. I can't honestly remember when I signalled in relation to the pass! I suspect it was probably after. I wish I had a video of the incident to be honest (I also suspect the club AR, who was doing that role for the first time, may have got the offside call wrong).

I had a tricky situation in a match on the weekend. This was my 6th match as a centre. Attacking team is down by 1 goal and we're approaching full time. Defender holds the attacker a few yards out of the penalty area, I wait, attacker shrugs him off and plays a nice ball through to his teammate...
