Lincoln v Wycombe

The Referee Store
I have to say that poor from the referee. Should have been a straightforward decision to stop play.

Yes, that is poor. As the commentator says, the keeper couldn't even come for the cross without risking treading on the prone players.

Looks like he puts the whistle to his mouth just before the cross, bet he wishes he blew...

You have to be quick on these decisions, i can understand why he didn't blow immediately as the ball fell to the attacker and had a chance of a shot to score, once the attacker played that ball backwards outside the box that should have been the time to blow.

The only consideration should be whether a serious injury has occurred and which combination of players are injured
Unofficially, two players flat out on the edge of the goal area is an instant stoppage and I can't conceive of any guidance out there to the contrary

That must be right. I learned from a coach last night that if he tells a player to take a knee at midfield and yells "ref I've got a player injured," the referee is supposed to immediately stop play, even if the other team is in the middle of an attack. At 16s?!?

I'd be playing on if htye were anywhere else.
But in the goalmouth I'd prob be blowing as soon as it leaves the area.
This is just one of those brain fart moments we all have

2 potential head injuries... isn’t it easy to stop play anywhere (with the common sense caveat: unless there’s a tap in)?

Well the attacking player had the chance of a clear shot on goal literally two seconds after the incident which he turned won, i dont see an issue if the next touch of the ball is a goal scoring opportunity in waiting.

As soon as it happened the physio has probably grabbed their bag and ran towards the pitch and that would take 4-5 seconds at best.

It should never have gone on as long as it did thats clear.

As I've done more and more games (around 120 now), I've become more and more a 'safe referee. Any head injury I just blow straight away and shout that its a head injury and go towards the injured players. Anyone who moans just gets told that I have to stop the game for any head injury and it's the same for both sides in every match I do. Nobody ever really moans and I'll never have any problems. Letting it go for a few seconds whilst you check the game situation is just opening yourself up to potential hiccups. After all, player safety is the priority above everything else

"head injury" means nothing to me. Even kids know to fake it.
If a player is conscious a 10 second delay isn't going to kill anyone

I was reflecting on this the other day: with the advent of the new drop ball Law I’ve found myself stopping the game more frequently for injury.

I think it’s because, if I can stop the game while a team has the ball in the defensive or middle third, the restart is now more fair than it useto be.

While thats true you cant reset the players positions, attacking team might have 3 v 2 attack but after the ball is dropped they will have everyone behind the ball if they wish.
