The Ref Stop
I got mine this morning. Am now a level 5 and that's it for me.

Congrats. I'm having one year going for level 4 to see if I can commit to it etc but not sure I'll do more than that as there seems an awful lot of travelling in the South West with the league restructure (still new to the area so I don't fully understand it). I figured I'll go for it for a year and see how it goes.

I'll have to talk to my advisors and fitness coach and local Landlord about 5-to-4 🤨

The new restructure should actually reduce your travel, as there should be more games locally.
At least that is the case for me. To get a western league game, my closest would have been Plymouth Parkway, or Buckland, which is about 100 mile round trip, taking about 2h20 mins if the traffic is nice.
With the restructure there are now 4 cornish sides, 2 from the very deep west, Mousehole and Helston and east Saltash, and Millbrook which are much more accessible.
You won't really know what the commitment is like until you are actually a 4, it's worth going for it.
Of course you will get lines, but they are appointed locally, so you'll only see where the refs have travelled from.
I wouldn't expect you to get too many games to far a foot from Bristol (iirc) as there are bucket loads of westerneague games over that way... Yate, Keynsham, Bridgwater, Cadbury heath etc. And I imagine you would get allocated a different step 6 league, not the South wets peninsula, although I don't know exactly how that works, if Mark Rogers does all the South West step 6 as well as he appoints our peninsula and western league games.
Never know, if I really annoy him he might send me up your way 😁
Edit, you would probably be allocated to western league div 1 as your step 6, which I think Mark does appoint to, Which I reckon there will be another load of sides from Bristol (ish) way.

Thats excellent information, thanks. I live near Yate. The issue for me is time. I work until 12 every other Saturday and until 5-6pm midweek but I'm going to give it a go. I've only spoken to a couple of local refs during a semi final line I did regarding the new restructure + an email from the TS league regarding the restructure but my local geography is still a bit iffy. I shall be going for level 4 and seeing how I can work it in with my job and family life. Unfortunately I've only done a handful of games since I moved down in November simply because football pretty much stopped here apart from the Sunday League which organised a cup over a number of weeks.

you can close the morning on moas, which is upto midday so you shouldn't get a game that's out of reach. And if you do you can explain there is insufficient travel time, which should be acceptable if your closed date was in on time.
I haven't reffed a game since boxing day. I would have picked up local games but have a young baby so have taken the chance to spend time with him before returning at stat of season.
Good luck with your promotion. I'm sure once you get the level 4 you'll enjoy it and want to go further

You should go for it @Ben448844. I seem to recall you had all the attributes, have the fitness, just needed to learn a few tricks off the trade and gain experience.
And things haven’t changed too much in Edlo either. 😎😇😉

Yeah I'll give it a go and see how we go. Been my attitude since I packed in playing and took up the whistle. Be good to get some games in the deep south west on a Saturday so I can take the Mrs down for the weekend. Then again having seen the m5 these last few weeks....

It's fine in the winter months if you don't mind getting wet and if the game is on 😂

I'm hoping for a 7-5 this season - I've had 4 Above Standard Assessments and had my RDO on my line at an Academy recently.

Done enough games in the 3 Adult Leagues I officiate in.

If not - I'll go again, take all constructive feedback on board and come back stronger.

Luckily the CFA I'm in, we have lots of help, mentoring and support.

Fingers crossed.

Fair play if you managed it in this season.

Would struggle to have done the 40 games this year even if I had my availability open.

Still waiting on an announcement from Berks & Bucks FA.

Covid aside this seems well behind other county FAs?

I’m aware of a few others at the northern end of BBFA still waiting to hear. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if things have gotten bogged down in the mess that was left after furloughing, departures and the overhaul of staffing.

And that’s not a dig; just one of those cases of it it could go wrong, it did, and almost all at the same time.
