The Ref Stop
What is bugging me is the lack of cards in games like these.
What I mean is, there are some challenges in this match that if it was in the Norwich v Brentford match yesterday would definitely have been cards. But it's just not happening (just as Maguire is rightfully cautioned).
I thought Fred should have been booked a minute or 2 earlier....

Didn't see it it in real time, but the slow motion makes it look like Foden is leaning in as much as he is being pulled by Maguire. Awful challenge from Maguire on half way for his yellow card, knew exactly what he was going to do, run in at speed with a sole intent of wiping out his opponent. Fernandes probably should have been in the book late on as well, ranting at the referee when he didn't get the decision he wanted.

Extremely close call on the offside, thought it was a good call in real time. Not much to separate that and Lukaku's in the League Cup final last week.

Roy Keane's post match rant in the Sky studio had more passion and desire than the entire United side showed in the 2nd half, lucky City's finishing wasn't better and it was only 4!

Not a penalty for me, and certainly not a clear and obvious error. Foden was leaning in and went down very easily.

You would only get criticised as a senior referee if keeping the cards away caused you problems, such as losing control. He dealt with the one nailed on caution for Maguire, which I think could easily have been red given the ball was in a different postcode at the time of the foul, but I don't think there were any mandatory cautions missed.

I personally thought Oliver was excellent and contributed to a very entertaining first half. He couldn't be blamed for the lessed entertainment in the second half, that appeared to be down to United sending out their under 15 team after the break 😂

Not saying he didn't have a bad game, just that some of those cautions are mandatory in other games, like my Norwich v Brentford example.

Must say though, the games gone soft in that this derby, 20 years ago, there would have been 4 or 5 yellows and possibly even a red (Keane more likely lol)..

The card I wanted was for Rodri (?) kicking the ball away to waste time during added time at the end of the first half.

It was so blatant, it would get any assessor’s pulse racing and probably cost you for missing it.

MO handled the game very well (he could lose a few pounds for the cameras though!) but yeah it’s all a bit last week’s ref if he doesn’t use the cards.

Don't think many people, including myself, expect a red card there

Lessened entertainment? Sounds a bit "fan" comment, as I've not laughed so much for a while.

Certainly not saying it was a missed red card, but the reaction of Martin Tyler and Gary Neville was interesting and they both gave shocked noises when the challenge went in. Increasingly in recent years red cards have been shown when there is no attempt to play the ball, I don't think Maguire could have complained had the colour been different.

Erm….

I said “I thought we’d given away a pen” meaning, I thought the referee had given the pen! Yes, that’s what I meant. I refer to the referee as “we” to show we are one community.

Did I get away with that one?
