    playing advantage

Hey Refs, I have a question on playing advantage here. Attacking player fouled outside PA, but his team kept possession and with 2 quick passes, had a shot at the goals. As ball was going wider, I called off the advantage and ordered a FK from outside PA. It was fairly quick action all up, 5-8...

Quick free kick and position of corner kick

I would tend to agree with Russell... unsporting behaviour would be the more serious offence. As the ball still not technically in play, its restarted again by an attacking team, with yellow card shown to the kicker....its one of those situations where you can feel that kicker had only one idea...

Quick free kick and position of corner kick

Thanks lurker, 1. Yes, Law 12.. kicking a ball at the opponent... its not that unusual, i have seen it many times when its fairly obvious that free kick taker wants to kick at the opponent deliberately... just happened this sunday and i let to retake a kick, however want to investigate it...

Quick free kick and position of corner kick

Hey whistle gurus, I have 2 trivial questions: 1. Free kick taker is agitated because of foul. Ball is stationery, opposing player is slowly moving away, kick taker is not happy with a speed of opponent and recklessly kicks a ball at opponent with clear motives of getting him a caution for...

    Offside or Goalkick?

Most of the times, i would GK instead of offside. Its little more beneficial from restart of play. Also, at pee match talk and when coaching AR's, i ask them to take extra few seconds before raising flag, to let game continue... seems to work.. my 15yo son, finally, made very good decision last...

Preventing Goalkeeper from releasing the ball

Thanks guys.. following the posts and checking the laws again, i think that yellow card would be too harsh in the second instance. First one, however, attacker was trying to prevent quick counter, so SPA could be applied there. Would it be ok to issue a card after half time whistle?

Preventing Goalkeeper from releasing the ball

About 40 sec left in first half. Goalkeeper just got possession of the ball and trying to release it for quick counter. He is around edge of penalty area. Opposing player No11 is just outside the penalty area and is clearly trying to prevent GK from releasing the ball. I havent stopped the play...

Difference between Australian and British referee levels

Can you guys point to any source of materials that compare standards of australian levels of referees vs British? For, example level by level comparison.. Thanks

    Offside or not?

Thanks guys.. "Deliberate" vs "deflection" - is the key to pay attention to. Ability to control the ball comes to mind when deciding between those 2... if defender makes few steps forward and use his legs to shield the ball - is that deliberate? As oppose to when they use upper body - which can...

    Offside or not?

Had a game today, no ARs.. Green attacking Player #11 shot at goals, approx 5m away from penalty area. He was positioned somewhat central in front of goals, and had 3 defenders in front of him plus goalie. Defenders were positioned just inside penalty area. After Green #11 shot at goals, ball...

    Single referee calling offside

I guess, playing football helps my refereeing decisions here... i anticipate a game play 1 or 2 movements ahead, and if ball is about to be crossed, then i quickly look at the defense/atackers position. After the cross, i give it few seconds to process movement of defenders/attackers, and only...

    Club AR misses offside

My 5 cents here.. its rare in our division to have full referee team. So on odd ocassion, if club offers AR, i usually instruct them to indicate balls out situations, and stay away from calling offsides. As R, its my responsibility to be in the best position on the field to determine the...

Blocking of goalkeeper during corner kicks

In sunday football there are many occasions when attacking players are trying to crowd around goalkeeper with a view to obstruct his movements. At these moments often defenders and keepers themselves start pushing attackers away, and attackers usually very persistent in trying to obstruct...
