Michael Oliver in the middle and sends off Bayer player for second yellow, but could have very very easily been a straight red (and probably should have been)

Incident at 2:15

There’s also a VAR involvement for a penalty in next clip of highlights

I get the feeling if it wasn't a second yellow VAR would have recommended a review.

Keep in mind that sfp threshold is lower in Europe than England. (Feel funny saying that because we lot consider England as part of Europe).

I don’t think we can criticise and say a caution is wrong there.
Studs down the back of the Achilles is a bad one, but it’s not done with a lot of force and it’s unfortunate.
I don’t think this is an example of MO’s alleged poor form anyway.

It would be interesting to know what MO would have done if offender had not already been on a yellow. However, I have no issue with a 2nd yellow and therefore a sending off. The important thing was - he was removed from the FoP and I would say is a tactic used by a Referee on many occasions (so long as not VC and not nailed down SFP).

Reckless not excessive force IMO, although there is certainly an argument it's endangering the opponent’s safety even with a lower amount of force used.

It’s what football expects… 😉

I just think it’s in that orange area where any observer worth their salt would back either outcome given the right explanation
Good point because it’s subjective and so either way is not incorrect in Law, or the other way, both ways could be seen as correct in Law. There is more than one way to skin a cat and not to throw a Referee under a bus, especially when there is no justification for it.
