Open Age First game this weekend

Rich. I've got to admit that I used to turn up an hour before but, like you, often found I was the first there. I now turn up about 45 minutes early and that gives me enough time to walk the pitch, meet the coaches, get changed, check equipment and warm up. I still find myself wandering...

    I was a little confused.

Helped out on an U12 match today as there was no ref appointed. Claret defender takes the legs away of a red attacker in the penalty box. No complaints from the Clarets for this decision. Red kicker steps up to take the penalty and as he is about half-way through his run to the ball one of...

    Open Age Question

As long as you have given a clear "advantage" signal, players (especially the offender) can be in no doubt that a foul has taken place. That combined with the pointing to the location of the two offences leaves everyone in no doubt as to why the player is walking. I would also be tempted to do...

    When going to games

I know where you boys are coming from. Personally I think that when I turn up to a match I am a representative for the FA and for the league in which I am officiating. As such, for local OA games, its clean jeans and a shirt. For youth its a clean tracksuit and for cup games (unless advised...

    Backpass clarification

But surely that would be cheating! ;)

    Simulation

No. I'm stopping the game to caution. The restart following me stopping the game to caution is the IDFK. The game hasn't been stopped because of the offence, but because the offence warrants a caution. I know it still amounts to a yellow and IDFK but the actual reason for stopping the game...

    Simulation

My point was that you don't stop the game because of the offence, you stop the game to issue the caution. Unless there is an advantage, in which case you would wait for the next stoppage.

    Junior/Youth Nightmare Game

Ha. I didn't give a penalty which I could easily have given. I don't know why I didn't. Attacker taken out by keeper. The ball had already been struck and was going wide so no DOGSO. But I convinced myself, and more importantly convinced the attacking team, that the keeper had come to a...

    Handball ref.

Without wishing to it may sound like I did this CAR a bit of a disservice. He didn't tell me that he was a ref, another ref who I know and was watching the game told me at half time. Mind you, as a few of you have said, when I have done someone a favour and run the line, I keep my mouth shut...

    Handball ref.

Firstly, I would like to say that one of the things that I love about this site, is that I can come on after a match, pen a couple of incidents that are causing me concern and sit back and wait for the great and the good to give me their feedback. So enough sucking up......handball. Blue v...

SPFL Penalty Claims - You Decide

Oops, my bad. In that case, he got them right? I'm a little confused. Time for a lie down:(

    Contact But Diving

I don't really think that you can. The offence is more about trying to cheat the ref into giving a foul rather than hamming it up. I had one today where a player was clearly fouled but spent some time writhing around on the floor. I blew the whistle ran up and said, "No advantage, free kick...

SPFL Penalty Claims - You Decide

I have to admit that watching it at normal speed, I gave the penalty. It was only after reading the comments above and seeing the slowed down version for the umpteenth time that I actually saw what really happened. So I can understand why the ref gave the first. Second one though, not in my...

    Simulation

My understanding is that there is no penal offence of simulation so therefore, you do not stop the game. The offence of simulation is cautionable and if you choose to stop the game to issue the card the correct restart would be IDFK. I cannot think of any scenario where you might play...

    Offensive, abusive and insulting language

I agree with Tealeaf. It does very much depend on context. I was told f@ck off in the context of "That's a foul player" "F@ck off ref, no way" Got him a yellow for dissent. Just as if he had told me "Get lost ref, no way" The player who told me to " Eat s@it ref" when I cautioned his mate...

    Keeping Warm

For what it's worth, last season I wore a skin 360 short sleeve under a Tresspass base layer (long -sleeve) under my short sleeve Diamond top. I couldn't afford long and short sleeve tops. With the close fitting Diamond sleeves you can hardly tell that it isn't a long-sleeved top. Kept me...

    Is nothing sacred?

Went back today and viewed CCTV (perks of the job) but there were so many comings and goings with the other users - hockey clubs etc, that I couldn't pick out one carrying my coat. I guess I was hoping to see a lone individual come into the changing block and leave shortly after carrying my...

    Backpass clarification

Fair enough. That's the beauty of this site, you get to learn:)

    Circumventing pass back law

SM in your original post you state that you thought that he flicked it up onto his own head before passing back. If that is the case, then you were right to penalise and award the FK, as it would appear that the player has used a trick to circumvent. In the second post, I don't believe that a...

Do you ever get those days when you wonder why you bother turning up? I suppose we all get the really. Blues v Yellows - youth (higher age) League Cup game. First half, yellow attacker running into the box and just as he reaches it passes to his left. As he does so a blue player runs...
