    Open Age Young referee threatened

You are quite right, but with 24 new referees on each course all starting refereeing at much the same time, finding mentors is very difficult. If 50% of the members of this forum gave two half days a season to mentoring newbies, the problem would be solved. Most CFA's have someone responsible...

    First game

Remember that different Competition Rules apply for those age groups - make sure that you know them beforehand. Details should be on the competition website. Most importantly - set out to enjoy the matches!

When does an injured player have to leave the field?

T There is a rider in Law 5 re not needing to leave the f. o. p. for treatment of a serious injury, but too frequently minor issues are sorted while 21 players wait.

    Open Age Young referee threatened

With unfortunate situations like the OP, the support from the RDO can only happen if they are aware of what happened. I wonder whether this young referee had advised the RDO of the abuse he had received, and whether he had issued any cards when he was abused. The point about random matches being...

    Offside Question

Law 11 includes: A player in an offside position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence

Junior/Youth New league doesn't want me?

Strikes me as strange that your leagues have a "cut off" date for referees - how do they deal with referees moving into the area (e. g. Uni students) and new referees qualifying after completing the course during the season? Especially strange as you indicate that they are so short of officials.

Looking for some advice from more experienced refs

Why can 16/17-year-old's not play in Open Age and Under-18 competitions, in your opinion?

    Liverpool Vs Bournemouth

I understand how forums should work, and when they do they are beneficial. If you re-read this thread, much of it degenerated into points scoring, and a lot of it was nothing to do with the OP. Sadly, that happens regularly on here.

    Throwing Spray On

Experienced referees will normally try to manage situations like this, rather than an immediate card. Throwing objects from the technical area onto the field is potentially at least a caution, so stopping that before it happens and explaining the potential offence would be a good start point...

    Liverpool Vs Bournemouth

For the last few days, nothing worthwhile has come out of this thread, just members having a go at each other, the style they regularly adopt. I, and I guess others, don't see the point of the various arguments put forward, which is why I, and I guess others, didn't bother to contribute. The...

    Junior/Youth Question about payment

Have a read of the rules of your league, probably on their website. That will also give you details of playing duration, kick off times, substitution rules, etc., etc., in addition to fee arrangements. Enjoy your refereeing.

    EFL OFFINABUS

As a tutor, and having re-read the @Russell Jones post to which you referred, he made the point that when teaching on the initial course and when working with promotion candidates the guidance is for them to deal with dissent or unacceptable language in accordance with the laws of the game, the...

    8 second law example

In every game I have watched this season, the referee has used the visual countdown, and in some cases voice as well, and it has worked. One corner awarded after a goalkeeper took too long just two minutes into the game, no other contraventions.

Open Age Advice for returning to refereeing

Watch a couple of games at the level you will referee, or the level above, to acclimatise to the use of Sin Bins, the 8-seconds law for goalkeepers, and the general "feel" of games in your area. If you can start with a couple of Assistant Referee appointments that would be useful. Get into touch...

    My first adult match

Unfortunately, the moaning by players goes with the territory these days, far more than a decade or two ago. The teams in the game I observed yesterday were moaning at half time about the "worst referee we've had". I don't know if they meant worst ever or worst this season (this was their third...

    Socks

Most referees where I observe advise their AR's to allow grip socks below the ankle bone only; anything higher is not acceptable. The reference to socks in Law 4 is the club colour socks worn by all outfield players, so grip socks over those are unacceptable.
