    Going for promotion- anytips

Control the controllables when being observed. Make sure you do a pitch inspection check players equipment Have good signals Have good positioning manage subs (go to the touchline, check equipment etc) if you have CARs call them in with the captains and give instructions there Have good...

Some talking points from my game on Saturday

A tip ive been given and I'm sure other people will use it to. On ball in/out decisions that you're not 100% sure who it last came off, give yourself a few seconds and gauge the player reactions. It's not a sure fire way of getting them correct, but you'll get more right, this will make you more...

    Junior/Youth First Match

Had a match a few weeks ago, tge away team only had 10 players, and team officials so there was no one from their team to be CAR. They were happy for the other team to do both lines, had a chat with the other team and after the vote they were happy to do both. A good game of football followed...

Drop ball. How are your leagues handling it?

I had a captain argue that drop balls no longer exist

    Offside or not?

For me what you've explained sounds like the ball hit the defender and it wasnt a deliberate play by the defender. So if #9 was in an offside position i would have given offside. If the defender attempts to clear the ball and miskicks it and it goes to #9 then I'm playing on and allowing the goal.

    Leve 7 Exam

I done this exam last week. It's a fairly straightforward exam with no trick questions. Be comfortable with law 8 onwards. Its based on 18/19 laws which is important to remember.

My intro,Finding matches in 'off season' and Random new ref Qs

Im on the 7-5 promotion scheme. Had a number of postponed matches in March this year and a couple of mix ups from the referee secretary for one of my leagues meant i missed out on a few other matches too. Luckily enough my other league gave me double headers and i joined a new league late on and...

    DOGSO Caution

Thanks both, just wanted to make sure i understood it correctly. I do find it a bit odd as at different stages of a game a team may prefer one thing over another. In the first 10 minutes they may prefer a red card for the opposition, however in the last 10 minutes they'd probably prefer the...

    DOGSO Caution

Have a very quick question regarding the below : Does the part in bold mean that if a player commits a DOGSO tackle and the other team decide to take a quick free kick that leads to a clear goal scoring opportunity, then the DOGSO is just a caution and not a sending off?

My intro,Finding matches in 'off season' and Random new ref Qs

You apply online, the promotion season has just started so you'll need to go for the next one which won't be until next year. You'll get an email through and you apply on the courses page, just like with Mastermind. They normally put a have a couple on, suspect they might only have that one on...

My intro,Finding matches in 'off season' and Random new ref Qs

London FA too. They do allow you to go on the accelerated promotion from level 7 to 5. I would also advise going to the monthly Mastermind meetings which they have if you can. They are on a Monday between 7pm and 9pm near Pimilico. The next one is on the 13th May, you can see it on the...

    IDFK deflected into the goal

What I do and I'm sure most people do is to tell the goal keeper if it's direct / indirect. Then you hope the keeper knows the laws and if its coming directly at him without touching anyone he can let it go into the goal knowing it'll be a goal kick, rather than possibly attempting to save and...

    No interference at offside

The assessor said I was correct (nothing was included in the report about it), he just said it may have been smarter refereeing to give an IFK. The defending team were losing heavily and their heads weren't in the game.

    No interference at offside

I had an assessment last week. During the match a player crossed the ball towards a player in an offside position, the CAR flagged but the ball was intercepted by a defender and the attacker didn't influence the defender. The defender then cleared the ball straight to an attacker and they...

    School County FA Cup Final...

In my match the manager and captain were the worse and it flowed to the other players. Lesson I learnt that day was expect the same from every game regardless of age, if I had done I think I would have handled the manager and captain better.

    School County FA Cup Final...

I've done a school game before, worst game I've had and I assumed it would be easy. One team and manager were own my back from the get go, don't assume anything and approach it as you would any other game

Retake penalty after kick before whistle

As above, probably wrong in law, but if he had missed I would have said play on, if he had scored retake

    Open Age Good match today

Another good match again today and I was being assessed to. More dissent than yesterday but the captains kept on top of it for me and had no complaints when I sin binned a repeat offender late on. Had three odd scenarios which I always thought were very unlikely so to get 3 in a match was quite...

    Open Age Good match today

Had a match today which finished 5-0 to the away team. Prior to the match my mentor had sent me a few pdfs on positioning and today was the day I was going to put what I learnt into action. I have to say it was one of my best matches to date. To be honest there werent many fouls and any that...
