Now, I've them plenty of times when I've gone to Griffin Park to watch Brentford, and on away days too, and numerous times on the tv - but never seemingly pulled up.

I have to keep explaining even to the older youth age groups what a foul throw is, and they never learn, but when they have these professionals doing it, and it never being picked up on, how are they to learn?

Here is one in the biggest game in Europe - tonight!


Just why are they never picked up on?

Ha ha - I saw that last night and thought exactly the same. More often than not its the quick throws that are the foul throws. I can only imagine (hope) that the officials were busy with their eyes elsewhere at that point last night, rather than ignoring the rather blatant foot in the air.
 
Context does have to be taken into account during these sorts of situations. It is in the 74th minute of a competitive game, the team taking the throw in are 2-1 down and are trying to get a goal back.

The game is fast flowing and great to watch, with millions and millions of people watching, why would the ref want to stop a great game to award a foul throw in, and by the same token, wholes wants to watch the ref during the champions league final (not many do).

My opinion, let them get on with the game, if the player gains an advantage from the throw in I'd award a foul throw, if not there is no need to get involved. But that's just my opinion.
 
The Prem has been setting a very bad example with foul throws in the last couple of years. It drives me nuts when I am in the middle. I think it partially comes from refereeing futsal, where you have to be strict about the kick-ins (ball still, on the line) otherwise the game disintegrates.
I now make a point of warning both captains before the game that throw ins will be taken properly! I have ended two games in the past month by blowing for foul throws! One was actually a mate of mine taking it. He was trying to launch one into the box, knowing there were seconds left, to get an equalising goal. There had been a couple of foul throws whistled already. It was an easy call for me. And he was very nice about it afterwards.
I might let one go if it is around midfield and in a blunt passage, depending on the mood of the game - and especially taking into account the age of the players, and if there is a situation where a player is taking the throws and cannot actually coordinate the action.
But I think you have to try act and apply the LOTG consistently. If you let foul throws go in a senior game, both teams can see, and you lose credibility and control. And you are basically letting someone cheat. IMHO of course.

Context? That's a foul throw, there's no 2 ways around it. It's not even questionable, it's completely blatant. The fact that they're trying to get a goal back doesn't change that - it's unfair to the opponents to claim it does.

We got a clear guideline before last season to put it back on the line ;) I think it makes sense. Makes it easy to see. A lot of our games are on very tight pitches underground with spectators and benches inches away from the playing field.
 
Amendment was made to the futsal Laws last year. On the line now.

For a number of years prior to that, the ball could be placed up to 25cm behind the line (about a ball's width).

Fair enough. I do have an issue though with instructions which directly contradict the laws of the game. Player do something acceptable by the laws of the game but are penalised for it. It looks like you are your guide lines are ahead of their time :) The new amendments are not in effect in Australia so I don't know what they are.
 
The new futsal amendments should be in effect everywhere around the world by now as they were introduced last June 30 by the FIFA Futsal Committee, so they take effect at the beginning of the next "season" that starts after that date.

True, I would be wrong in law to let it go, however, like I said, who wants the ref to give a foul throw in this game. It is a great game of football and doesn't need the referee to Get involved in, in my opinion. A bit of law 18 needed here for me.

Apologies to everyone else for going OT (maybe we should take this to another thread @AlexF ).
Your post has got me curious now as I have not heard of this amendment. Checking the Futsal LOTG on FIFA website, the 2014/2015 release has this "kicks the ball, which must be stationary, either from the point where it left the pitch or on the ground outside it at a distance no greater than 25cm from that point".

So what are you saying? Players should throw it in however they like in a professional match? Or referees should only penalise foul throws in boring matches?
 
Check it in slow time.... (i know... we don't get slow time in reality) .........but its not actually that blatant.... in fact id go as far to say his foot only comes up after the ball is released....... maybe ?..
