Villa v Blades

Sheffields Finest

Maybe I'm foolish, maybe I'm blind!
Level 7 Referee
Welcome back to the Prem, 100 days of wait, finally we've got something to discuss and argue over.

Good luck to Michael Oliver, he's generally our best ref in the country,,,,,,,

Apparently this is our shirt for the game.....

Will be watching, hopefully am wrong but I think it will still have a bounce match feel to it.
The players are so conditioned to act as the crowd expect them to, that without that carrot, things might be a little flat.
The aggression, for show
The theatrics. For show
The snarlimg at ref, for show

nobody to impress/play up too, they are left to focus on their actual ability.
Which is not what makes a lot of them the full package

hopefully an interesting, if not thrilling, watch though

Not sure if they are pumping in crowd noise but we were 0-3 up last year with 10 to go and drew 3-3 plus there was a decent penalty shout, Villa Park was rocking in atmosphere that afternoon...

Am guessing if noise is pumped in, its only home team fans ?
Certainly for singing, but, if away team score, are there cheers, or, groans from home fans?
Same with say tonight, away player sent off, in real times, 40,000 would sing the cheerio song...

what about a good rendition of the referees a w****er as well!?

The better teams have generally been winning in the other European Leagues
The absence of crowds doesn't seem to be affecting results with any obviousness

If anything, it's meaning results are generally closer to the "expected" results - as you say, teams are generally beating teams below them and losing to teams above them with a much higher degree of consistency.

Its very strange already.

from personal experience, closed door games are more enjoyable for the linesmen...

so lets see how this goes

Oh oh. First game. Goal line technology has failed miserably

Shouldn’t the assistant have been on the goal line in this instance? Surely he should always have a view in case technology breaks down

Given at one point he was pushing the ball onto the back of the post it had to have been over the line. Plus the lack of a goal line decision view like we normally get speaks volumes.

I think the officials may have known it was in, but there isn't really a lot they can do unless they are 110% sure it was over. If they overruled the tech and gave a goal only for it to be proven it hadn't gone in they'd be in serious trouble.

not watching it, buts thats exactly what happens when you see tech are a replacement, and not, an addition.....

Even if he was would have been difficult to see as Nyland's left arm would be blocking his view.

not watching it,, but, if they have missed a goal, thats as serious as it gets!
Its game changing. Man in street says its league position defining..
Tech is an aid, not a replacememt....

exactly right. The GLT has been incredibly reliable up to this point. You’d be very brave to be the one trying to overrule it (even though they would have been right in this case)
