I personally enjoyed the penalty appeal that the referee and VAR waved away as the defender got a slight touch on the ball. Could have sworn such incidents are stonewall penalty’s
Maybe the lino gave it and VAR backed the on-field decision. I very much doubt it though as the commentators were listening to the VAR interference. One way or another, it's a bad mistake. Nobody was clearly interfered with in terms of their ability to play the ball. Simple as that

I personally think it is offside, Rogers blocked off the defender such that he couldn't move back towards his own goal or go out to engage the wide player the ball was played to. Whether the defender would have been able to get there without the interference is questionable, but it was certainly a planned act to block him off. What I don't understand is why it wasn't sent as an on-field review, the fact that Rogers was stood in an offside position was factual, but whether he was interfering with an opponent was very much subjective.
Also agree there was a clear foul on Rogers in the built up to the second goal. It was deep in the other half, but was immediately before the pass that led to the goal and I'm therefore surprised VAR didn't get involved.
The commentator also described Matt Donohue as a specialist VAR official, I didn't realise such a thing existed?

Rogers prevents Semedo from turning by holding him and having his hands on his back. Maybe you could argue it’s not much of an impact, but it definitely isn’t wrong to say that is interfering with an opponent imo.
To quote @JamesL, if you play silly games (waiting in an offside position trying to block off a defender running back) then you win silly prizes (given offside).
I’m absolutely fine with this being given offside. Impact looks to be minimal but for me, as soon as you make physical contact with an opponent travelling in the opposite direction, there’s enough potential impact to make it offside.

I think the terminology used by the commentator was factually incorrect but I knew where he was coming from in the sense that Matt Donohue’s contribution to the PL this season have all been as a VAR Assistant, though he has been Refereeing games in the Championship as an SG2 Referee. David Coote was a Specialist VAR on the FIFA list & during the Olympics, so I think the term (specialist VAR Assistant) has perhaps been used outside of the English game more readily.

Most times. Unrelated to this game but there is a (silly games) trend to block off keeper movements on set pieces in a way that is not punishable with the current laws. I'd like that removed out of the game.
With the introduction by clubs of set play coaches, blocking off generally has become more sophisticated. Although PL are more aware of what is now occurring, they always seem to be one step behind, which is perhaps not surprising (this is separate to the issue of blocking off goalkeepers which still often occurs).
