Shirt Colours

My county allows us to choose any alternative kit colour we like and so I am just curious as to which colour you recommend?

My favourites are volt, turquoise and orange but open to any and all suggestions!

Just another stick to beat you with if you turn up in a bright colour I would think!

Well, on those sunny 100 degree days it's sure nice to wear a light color . . . oh, wait, you're in the UK, never mind. Here in Southern California, black is by far the least worn color (out of our ridiculous five colors) mostly because of the sun. (Though it is also the worst to find the AR on the touchline in an evening game with lousy lights, so not used much then, either.) But I'd say be glad you only need one shirt instead of a closetful!

Teams in England below National League are not allowed to wear black or dark blue kits. If they do report them to the league and CFA.

I know. I told the teams and the league but i got no support from the league or FA so I’m just covering myself by having the option if I need it. They expect me to wear bibs but of course I don’t. So we end up playing with 12 black kits instead. Not much support at all on the issue unfortunately. I was told I did the right thing by not wearing a bib by the league and FA but they still didn’t do anything about it.

Ive been asked a few times whether ive got a different colour shirt in my bag, to which my response is always, "Sure, Red, Blue, Yellow or Green?"

A lot of teams ive seen have large sections of their shirts which are black, so its just easier to change my shirt than get confused with a player

I’ve never worn a bib, I just bring my associations three choices to every game (volt yellow, black or blue)

although, I have made an away team wear bibs on one occasion. Home team just got their new kits, (all white with black stripes), so they didn’t bring their clash kit. Away team for some reason have their reserves wear their away kit (also white), with the first grade team wearing navy, but they hadn’t shown up yet. Home team had bright yellow meant bibs, so I got the away team to wear those, and I could see the numbers through so I was ok with it

2. You wear your normal top and everybody gets utterly confused and they keep passing to you.

The only way they will buy another kit is to start playing the fines of £50+, otherwise they will keep doing it.

Don't laugh about this - In the United States, we are starting to wear colored socks more and more for our matches. Even our primary official kit supplier had a limited run of yellow socks that were worn during a number of post-season tournaments. When I referee my son's pre-season friendlies as a solo ref, I'll break out my yellow socks if either team is wearing black or navy blue socks and my shirt is yellow. I never wear the yellow socks in official US Soccer competitions of any type.

This even started in some of our high school matches, even though our high school "rules" book (In the US, our college governing body and high school governing body have different books from IFAB/FIFA) specifically says referees will wear black socks with white horizontal stripes. In at least three matches in our state high school tournament series, referees wore socks that matched shirt colors.

Have to agree. Did a few games for a football league club's academy and they insisted on wearing black. Eventually they got fed up with complaints from referees and their opponents and changed to, ironically, the parent club's first team colours, which you would have thought would have been the easiest thing to do in the first place!
