This is another one of those in my opinion where the only debate is what’s the better decision, not which one is right. On first viewing, I immediately thought red and then when I saw the replay from the other angle I wasn’t convinced/thought it was harsh.

Serious Foul Play for me. Two players coming together at speed, point of contact is the inner thigh, lunging from the front.
I think the slow motion waters this down a bit. Real time, its a red card in my opinion.
You missed the second point of contact which is nuts. 🤣

You don't need much force for that one and it would look much more force if not played in slow motion.

Also red for me. But my threshold for SFC seems to be lower than some others here.

Assuming (maybe incorrectly) that you've posted this because you don't think it's a red? I'm gonna be on the opposite site of the debate again 😆

It's serious foul play for me this time. He's in far less control of his challenge than the player was in the Gavin Ward one, despite the fact there is perhaps a touch more consequence on that one. I think a caution could just about be supported, but its not really a footballing action and I think red is the correct outcome.

No no, I was just curious as to what the general consensus should be, as it’s split opinion in other chats I had about it.

I’m perfectly happy with red, especially on first viewing. I think @Gabriel sums it up fairly well. But I’d rather see red here than yellow.

It’s a weird challenge. On first viewing in looks absolutely stonewall red card and lots of force. Then on the replay, the force is a lot different. But that’s angles for you.

I've added a poll to the thread. 😊

Love a poll I do. 🥰

i'm genuinely surprised at the discussion on this. heard it was 'controversial' before seeing it...looks a clear red for me. he's SO high

I think the controversy comes from the fact that from a certain angle the impact appears to be quite a 'glancing contact', but as you say - SO high, very unnatural.

On first watch and at game speed I agree it looks like red. for SFP. From different angles or slowed down I can see why some would think yellow, but we see it in real time and I don't think there can be much argument.

Glancing maybe, but still endangers the safety of the other player. To say nothing of his future prospects of fatherhood …. 🤣

In the same game, I was intrigued at the penalty shot out. Referee walked off to the penalty mark & AR briefed both GKs on his expectation on leaving their line etc.

I have not seen a referee delegate this to their AR, is it a best practice? or actually better for the referee to be present at?
