Censorship
I know the other thread was closed but there is a lot of action in this fixture.
Liverpool non penalty..
I think if Hooper gives it, VAR wouldn't have overruled despite no contact being (clearly) made. From all angles Collins looks like he plants his foot in front of Gakpo (i think it was him), and Gakpo tried his luck and went down maybe expecting contact that never came.
I do feel though if Hooper, who was close to it and told VAR no contact was made, how has he not cautioned for simulation? He would be looking here now to deceive the referee.
Added on time first half:
Board goes us and indicates 3 minutes. I was trying to explain elsewhere it is a minimum of 3 minutes but at the same time I was trying to find where he found an extra 50% of lost time within the 3 added minutes. Do i think it could've been more initially? Maybe. I was probably expecting 5. But to only flash up 3 and then play 5 when you very rarely see referees add time on after the alloted minutes are up regardless is playing to the "play until Liverpool conspiracies".
Hoopers injury/half time:
No signs of hurt as he walked off. But I'm no doctor.
Cries of cheat at half time, booked the Brentford manager for what I assume was choice words said as he came off at the whistle. Looks can be very deceiving here but doesn't look good to conspiracy theorists. I would like to say hope he recovers well but I dont rate him at all so take as long as you need.
Brentford penalty:
With Hooper replaced by Tim Robinson at half time, for the first 15 minutes or so it seemed like Brentford were getting a few more fouls (which I thought were fouls in the first half not given) for holding and pushing of the front line of theirs. Then there was the "soft" foul given on Dango by VVD. Is it a foul? Technically yes. As alluded to in the closed thread VVD does get the "faintest of touches" on the bottom of Dangos boot. Definitely give them defensively. If he knew it was in the area I highly doubt he gives it. I know I wouldn't. But as he has, and VAR have checked its actual location, he cant now change his mind about giving it. Its been deemed on the edge of the area, on the line, so penalty it is.
2nd half added time:
7 minutes flashed up. Rightly. Plenty of subs, throws taking their time (even thoughyou only add on what you think is excessive wastage as tou dont normally add time for other throws, do you?), penalty delay (VAR check). But then Thiago goes down in the area following a set piece launched in to area and he is trying to get on the end of it. It appears that VVD has swung an elbow.
Personally I think this is more of a penalty than any of the other 2 shouts because, for me, despite natural positioning, I dont think VVD needs to be swinging his arm out and back like that. Dangerous action to make and very lucky to have got away with it. Also took Robinson a few seconds to stop the game too so either he didn't get a proper look at it and didn't see the contact or he felt the contact was on his face. And as it was. I think VAR should have recommended a review. Subconsciously, and im guessing, I wonder if he felt the one he/VAR gave earlier was very soft and correcting himself. Id hate to think that's the case but no one cant say they've never either considered it or done it themselves.
But this incident caused further added time in added time.
Que mass whistles and confrontation from Brentford fans and players when the time hits 98, 99, 100 and with Liverpool only needing 1 goal to draw level, it was attack after attack and quite nearly an equaliser was found. Amongst all this, the keeper was penalised for holding the ball too long. Not seen this yet myself in the PL but ive not seen every game. And im not saying he didnt hold it for 8 seconds. With TV showing replays all the time of various things, I couldnt tell if Robinson even put his arm up to indicate the timer is getting close. Players seem to think he may not have. Who knows. Commentators on the tv said they'd heard that an additional 3 minutes would be added to the 7 now due to Thiagos injury early on, but we're now heading into 4 and 5 added on beyond. Players and those in stadium don't know hes communicated 3 extra. They also dont know why it's now 5 extra. So, again, you can imagine the uproar when it seems like (also giving the corner) they're doing all they can to get Liverpool to equalise.
Of the two referees, I think Robinson done better. But it did seem like a favour the big team bias out there. The first 15 minutes of the 2nd half seemed like a "give every soft foul" to appease the home fans for what they (fans) see as bias towards towards Liverpool.
