    Interpretation of the Offside Law

I'd be saying offside too, as previously mentioned deliberately blocking isn't the same as deliberately playing the ball. If the player had purposefully tried to flick it back off his head to the GK it's a different story but you'd have to be pretty crazy to attempt something like that.

    What would you do?

The ref could get away with saying that he played an advantage for an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, however the scoring player was offside, so technically the handballing defender did not deny a goalscoring opportunity as the ball did go in the net - the offside was not the defenders fault...

    Man utd vs Liverpool

And, watching the highlights, could have given at least another two. Great result though for the pool, get in!

Handball in box what would you give?

I don't think arms crossed across the chest is a natural arm position, however, I don't see how you would give the penalty at all if the ball would've clearly hit him on the chest anyway. Seems a clear unintentional handball to me and thus "Not intentional - play on!".

La Equidad v Sante Fe, 16/03, Red Card

You wind up merchant haywain :( Wouldn't have minded watching it again, unfortunately I can't find highlights anywhere

La Equidad v Sante Fe, 16/03, Red Card

Now I understand that most of you probably didn't watch this game, but due to my love for south American football and my current insomnia I decided to watch this one. Game ended 2-0 to Sante Fe but something really interesting happened on the 80th minute. Equidad number 28 was a 60th minute sub...

    Hull City vs. Manchester City

He purposefully spat. Absolutely disgusting and hopefully the FA will take action. On topic, for me Kompany was 100% fouled first. After watching the replay a few times I think Jelavic goes down a bit easy after the tugging from Kompany but he has every right to I suppose and if the referee is...

    Poor sportsmanship

My game last Sunday was the most pleasant game I've ever had. Granted it was only U13s but there was 4 fouls in 70 minutes of football, I left a happy young man and so did the coaches.

    Not so violent conduct

Funnily enough while we're on this topic I'll mention something I saw last season. Pre-season friendly at my local club, I volunteered there for a couple of seasons on matchdays as a steward... Ryman League level so level 3 referees (although I think it was a 4 on this particular day as it was...

    Not so violent conduct

Whether or not he made contact with the player is irrelevant - it's a red card. You may be able to sell a yellow for the pusher too but if it was an aggressive push I'd be showing the red too, especially two-handed. The "big lump" would definitely be a sending off though. "Striking or...

    Open Age My first red

You did the right thing in my eyes, but in the eyes of the law, as it was a two-handed push into the chest, shouldn't you have considered a straight dismissal for violent conduct?

    Junior/Youth U12 Semi Final Issues

He was the AR on that side of the field, he had every possible right to advise that the player leave the technical area. Generally an AR will assume the duties of technical area management, at least from what I've heard from most refs (and my very limited AR experience).

    Junior/Youth U15 - Sent off Manager

You should report to the County. You don't have to report to league although it's an option if you want to keep them updated. Use the Standard Misconduct Report form to report this.

    Diplomatic Final Whistle

Your only mistake was playing the 30 seconds too much in the first place. You could've avoided the whole issue by blowing up there and then. Remember next time. I personally don't see how I'd be able to sell a full-time whistle after something like that has happened... technically you're within...

Classic things you hear whilst refereeing...

Had a funny one today, red v white. Red corner first of the match, red player stands just in front of the goalkeeper, nothing wrong at all, but apparently an angry parent disagrees... "Ref what's wrong with you he's not allowed to be within two yards of the goalkeeper!" She was standing with a...

    Junior/Youth Ooopss - Time up

I actually just emailed the league secretary a few minutes ago (I've had plenty of contact with her so know her well) to ask if she wants an official report on it. It was accepted by both teams after the final whistle though and I doubt they have much to complain about as both were high marks...

    Atletico vs Real

What the heck was the Athletico Madrid assistant manager doing? Half expected the referee to turn round and lump him, what a knob!! Hopefully UEFA/La Liga throw the book at him, disgrace.

    Alan Pardew headbutt

Disgraceful. Newcastle should have put the boot in but with Pardews record £100k & a warning doesn't seem enough. Should be on a ground ban for 5 matches minimum, and possibly a further 5 matches touchline ban. He definitely shouldn't be seen in the technical area anytime over the next 2 months.

    Junior/Youth Ooopss - Time up

My first big blooper of the season today. Kept getting shouts after around 31 mins of my U12s game asking me how long. Got to 37 mins and one of the managers screams "you do realize we only play 30 ref"... ooops! I had been under the impression they were the U13s and was playing 35 a half. Cue...

Junior/Youth Did I expect too much

Not sure if it's the same in OPs league, but in the league I ref in a mark of 60 or below requires a report to be sent to league and referee secretary. So may have to send a report in for a 60 mark. This is why most leagues laugh at managers who mark 61 just to avoid having to do a report...
