SkySports reporting of the proposed new IFAB laws

You would still be able to punish for reckless challenges, it just means that careless challenges don't receive a yellow card. Holding the opponent, etc would still be a mandatory yellow,, so if the goal had seen scored in the Liverpool v City match recently, the offending Liverpool player...

    Level 4 & above fixtures

In the very old days (when I was refereeing), if you didn't get a match in your league (we were assigned to leagues rather than levels), you could only referee at local level. So, there are many stories of Football League referees turning out for a "Dog and Duck" match in a Saturday afternoon...

    Open Age Un...bloody...believable

That's happens half the time. Players appeal hoping that you can't attend, so they get off on a technicality. So, they lose their appeal deposit (it's only money), get costs awarded against him and can get a larger fine. You know to chak it up to experience (And to nobble the ba****d next...

    West Ham v Liverpool

Just watched the sending off of Lucas Paquetá, with 2 yellow cards. And then the sarcastic clapping off the decision. If this was a grassroots match, a second report would be going in and an extra ban issued. So, I hope the FA stand by their respect campaign and add another match to his...

    Junior/Youth witnessed this

I would be tempted to give the league an informal ring about what you saw. All it takes is one parent to complain, and he'll could open. And as you have posted the incident on here, somebody watching may be aware. I always say "information is power", so the more info the league has they can...

    Open Age Referee admin

Since I started in 1980, computers were a future issue. Mobiles didn't even exist...and photocopies were rare Carbon paper for duplicates was required, but you had to do a third copy for you records, given the number of appeals you had. Full records of the offence had t be given - not just a...

    Soft shin pads?

The duty of care for ensuring the players are safe is with the team officials. They should not be allowing him to play if they are suitable, like the rest of their team kit.

    Penalty advantage

Either decision works, but could you sell it? That is the question for your authority.

    First game

Enjoy, I don't think that you will need to worry to much about leniency. Just make sure you blow the whistle and make clear positive decisions. Your problems may come from the coaches, so aware of them and ensure you are in control of them.

    Open Age Young referee threatened

I suspect that somebody knew he was a referee and asked him to do it. There is the question, why did he accept such a match after his previous experience (but that is not the problem). The lack of the experience meant he was scared to issue cards - a lack of training. In USA (I recall), you...

    Upcoming potential bad tempered game.

I used to call this approach "strangling the game", where every free-kick was given - no advantage. Free-kicks and throw-ins were blade of grass accurate. Once the players complained, it was if you want have a football match, play properly and I will allow.

    Grimsby V Man United

While I agree VAR would have probably disallowed the goal for handball, the VAR would have given a penalty against the goalkeeper for the clear-out of the Grimsby centre-half. Overall, probable the same result.

    Upcoming potential bad tempered game.

In the olden days, the advice would have been to "hammer" the first 10/15 mins. If the players wanted to play football, them let them but if they wanted to be silly c*nts, then the yellows and reds follow. A bit old fashioned way if thinking. My advice would be very careful on apply advantage...

Looking for some advice from more experienced refs

As Rusty says, 16 and 17 year old can play open age. So you could have a team of 16/17's play in a normal men's league. The referee has no concerns, unless their is "safeguarding" issues arise. But normal play would not be a problem

Looking for some advice from more experienced refs

If the intention was to put the player off, then you are completely correct. Same as a push in the back, when completely unable to play the ball, puts a player off. Think of the wrestling at corners....designed to put players off. It was just vocal instead of physical. Well done.

    Junior/Youth Question about payment

This applies even if the fees are split. The Home club should pay you and get the Away team share from them. You are not expected to chase payment from the teams.
