Very interesting for Madely with the cards.

He has had use cards as it has been quite dirty - and he caught Silva diving.

Some quite notable missed though;
17 secs - reckless rake down Haaland’s ankle
About 20 mins, Mahrez should have had a pen when his foot was trodden on.
The young Eve should have already been booked for SPA on Grealish and eventually got a cumulative yellow.
KDB rightly got a yellow for a very dirty foot in.

I think Madely also missed Haaland’s revenge, a late challenge on the CB that raked him.

I was sure VAR would come back for the pen - and SPA is no longer an offence it seems…. The laws need editing if this is how we are supposed to do it!

Ooh and 45 mins, Haaland, clearly rattled goes in out of control, in the air, no chance to play the ball, late, dirty, horrible. At grassroots it has to be red. Here it’s yellow and one for Tarkowski for asking WTF it’s not red.

That stoppage for an equipment failure was painful to watch...
How is there not just a backup set pitch side and ready to go?

Everton have pretty much wasted the entire 2nd half with no discipline. Absolutely wasting all our cash

Should Haaland have had a straight red or second yellow for the elbow?

50 seconds over tye 11 added was beyond belief too. Ball wasn't in play for the first 50 seconds of added time. Standard fayre I guess

I don't think I've ever seen a weaker ref at city. 50 seconds over tye 11 added was beyond belief too. Ball wasn't in play for the first 50 seconds of added time. Standard fayre I guess

He wasn't great but it certainly went both ways.
He missed at least 3 clear fouls against Everton that city subsequently nearly scored from.

The non foul on Everton by akanji on the left wing in injury time was baffling. Wiped him out. Made the insanely soft one by stones a minute later in the same place even more frustrating

And Haaland? Are you going to defend the idea that he somehow avoided an early bath?

I'll need to see it again, good 100 yards from my seat. Didn't look good though, at very high speed

Straight arm? I thought it was a lunge/tackle!! Definitely too far away if that's the case!

When the highlight is Haaland celebrating getting a free kick ... (Could that have been classed in the same way as sarcastically applauding the referee?) ... then you know what you've witnessed was not a Pele tribute, most certainly not "the beautiful game".
Easily the worst ref at city this year. Everton have pretty much wasted the entire 2nd half with no discipline. Absolutely wasting all our cash
The season's still young!

You can't blame the referee for a 6 minute delay for equipment failure - but if they can play with a VAR failure * why can't they play without radio communication?

* I mean tech failure, not failure of VAR to review incidents.

Even with the higher leniency levels we are seeing in the PL these days, how on earth has Pickford got away without a card for running over and angrily waving a finger in the face of the AR? :wall:

I think he meant when Haaland was fouled from behind by Tarkowski in the second half and Haaland stuck his arm out and Tarkowski "ran into his arm".

Thought Haaland's tackle was on the border of yellow/red and well-handled. Point of contact not too bad but a lot of force obviously. Think on our levels, these tackles will be less well timed and clear reds

One of the poorest all round refereeing displays I’ve seen at the Etihad. Thought Madley was inconsistent/indecisive in his decision making, with a number of baffling foul/no foul decisions (for and against both sides) and it never really felt like he had the game under control.

Haven’t seen the Haaland challenge back but thought it looked a poor one in real time.

One take away for me from the game is the importance of being “on it” in the first few minutes of the game. The missed rake down Haaland’s achilles in the first minute set the tone and it felt like he never got the game back. Doesn’t excuse the players of course, but it’s a lesson in how easy it is to lose a match.

Hard not to agree. Worst was perhaps a technical one where he'd dropped the ball for Pickford to restart play without seeing / realising Everton were wanting to make subs. So he stopped play, ran 40 metres back, allowed the subs, then walked 40m back to the PA to drop the ball again for Pickford.
