Also find it extraordinary that Paulo Fonseca ever gets a job. Just seems to get sacked over and over

That’s some sterling self-discipline not to stick the nut on that massive ****. Not sure I could 100% say I’d have done the same.
 
He's going to be facing a very lengthy suspension for that, somewhat ironic given the referee was about to indicate a decision that would benefit his team.
 
We are making some assumptions here. I'm always wary of edited clips. The VAR review could have also been for the knee to the head of the keeper and I suspect this is what the manager was protesting about. In either case appalling behaviour and no excuse for it.

You would have to assume that Lyon will sack him though, as opposed to keeping paying him for 9 months when he has limited ability to work. It is only a partial changing room, and then a touchline ban, and won't stop him managing in their European games. Knowing this manager he will just pop up managing in another country and unless the French FA sought to extend it to a worldwide ban it wouldn't apply.
 
9 months seems an appropriate ban. I do hope it gets converted into a global ban.

Also it would be gutting if Lyon have to pay to sack him.

Pretty sure they wouldn’t… they can count it as gross misconduct (or whatever their employment law equivalent is)

There will be a clause in the contract that it can be terminated without compensation if he is given a suspension longer than a certain amount of time. Same as there are in player contracts that allow clubs to get rid of players without compensation if they banned for failing drug tests, match fixing, etc.
