Censorship
I recently had a game that, when the ball was played through on goal, a player who was in an offside position (A1) started running towards the ball. But at the same time a player in an onside position (A2) also ran towards the ball.

A1 slowed down before reaching the ball allowing A2 to take the ball and subsequently score.

I then had 2 or 3 defenders come running at me, and then the keeper, shouting at me about A1 being offside. These players were the type of players who put hands up and stop playing because they (think they) are offside.

The keeper starts shouting that he would've come for it if it was onside but didn't because he thought I'd have called offside.
I tried to reason with him in that he should always play to the whistle and that a player being in an offside position doesn't mean he is, in fact, offside. Nor does him moving forward towards it (but still not getting to within about 8-10 yards of the ball) mean he is offside especially if another attacker, who is onside, is also making moves for the ball.
I did say that if the player offside stopped and blocked a defender or keeper from getting there before the other attacker I will likely call it offside but he didn't. You all just stopped.

Is my understanding correct?
Or had i messed up?

For me, you just need to identify at what point you class either player as becoming active. If you felt A1 didn't become active in any way, there's no offence.

Remember, most players don't understand offside, so they just see a player moving and claim an offence when in reality, there's usually much more to it.

I would say you got it correct based on what you've written.

I thinknthe offside situation is pretty stright forward and we'll answered above.

However I'd like to understand your thought process if players running at you and shouting at you would constitute dissent?

I did caution the keeper (he ran the furthest to argue). The defenders were more a few yards away rather than the 20 yards the keeper was.
I could've cautioned more but felt this, considering I'm alone, would have caused more aggro but felt my own game would've been lost if I didn't do at least 1.
