Impressive - the 5 to 4 promotions were only emailed out Friday and confirmation yesterday via email (still awaiting league pool allocation)

Interesting that there are more 4-3 mid season promotions than 5-4. Is this the start of thinning down the number of 4's? Or just a coincidence?

Also, my unknown identity is now down to 1 of 32! They're on to me.
Unless there are plans for 4th officials to operate below Step 1 then they need to reconsider the numbers above 4, certainly at 2b. I don't hear many 3s referencing lack of games but some will be in their decision year at the end of the season which will impact numbers again.

Do you not read my posts 😂

I know that 3s in the south west (certainly Cornwall/Devon) are suffering lack of games and I know similar experience in the North West.

There's a high concentration of 3s in some areas with not enough step 3/4 football to go around. Usually 2 middles and 1 line a month. Often it can be less.

Anecdotally, I don't hear 3s referencing this with most doing at least 4 middles a month, sometimes with a line too. The geographical issue within the South West isn't new. There are some Step 2 clubs that way, although the South will likely lose Yeovil to the Premier. Even if 3/2bs are used more for 4ths lower down the pyramid, I doubt it will add many more fixtures per referee in that region.

At risk of making my identity from the list above even less of a secret, referees in my area (midlands) don't tend to have issues. I know of someone who is referee only who has only had a couple of saturday's off all season (postponements aside). But obviously midlands referees I suppose are easier to appoint as they can go anywhere.

The geography is tough here. We're kind of in a balancing period at the moment. We've a good chance of gaining 3 or 4 step 3/4 teams with relegation and promotion from step 2 and 5 respectively. Since step 5 became level 4 it significantly impacted the number of games available, possibly by more than half.

I do struggle with the North West conundrum. There's hoards of step 3 and 4 clubs but still a similar shortage of games. So I have heard.

Yes. Can do Southern League south, southern league central and dip into Northern leagues too. You'll be a busy boy..keep on top of the comp rules as they do vary between the leagues.

As an AR I have had appointments on Southern, Isthmian and Northern! So yes, will make sure I study up.

I've got 2 middles in February and nothing else, but both of my middles are Tuesday night games.
A colleague who has also gone 4-3 mid-season has 2 middles on midweek games and 1 line on a monday afternoon game. Neither of us have any Saturday appointments.

Appears like (understandably) appointments were already all done and us newbies have been used to fill the gaps. So it's promising that I've got as many middles as I've had in any month so far despite this being a last minute situation!

1 line. 1 middle. Fairly standard month for me. Nice 3 hour trip on a Tues eve as well. Leave 3pm. Home after 1am.

I wouldn't bet on it !
2 lines and 1 middle for me this month at level 3. Same as last month - lots of time on the couch !
The middle will almost certainly be observed and nearly a month after the last one. That's the bit I find hardest

I'm intrigued to know if those operating as a 4 or 3 make themselves available to Step 7 and below if you're not active on steps 6-4 on a weekend?

I take local games in between but they're just not comparable in terms of competitiveness, skill level etc.

I wondered that too. If you haven’t been appointed to the higher level weekend matches, rather than not do anything why wouldn’t you then make yourself available for lower level games? In my area there are numerous matches that are not covered by qualified refs every weekend and I’m not talking young mini soccer I mean adult district leagues and older youth leagues.
