My instinct was a dive, but on replay I think there's enough contact that I understand why VAR wouldn't get involved. Although having said that, if the ref had gone with yellow for simultion, I don't think VAR would have overridden that either?

Blessing that we got an early Portugal goal, if this was 1-0 Spain I’d be turning it straight off, training exercise sidewards passing for 90 mins, 80% possession.

Aside from the penalty, the ref's letting a lot go. I don't think of myself as particularly picky, but there have been two or three minor careless fouls in the last few minutes I probably would have blown for. But even though the fouled player loses posession, he seems content to consider them trifling enough to ignore.

The first 15 mins of this has had more skill in its little finger than the other 3 games combined. Portugal and Ron are playing very well. But Spain will wear them down as the get more possession surely...
